Chiranjeevi biography facts
# Chiranjeevi was born on 22nd Aug 1955 Mogalthur, Andhra Pradesh, India to Venkata Rao Konidala and Anjana Devi Konidala. His birth name is Konidala Siva Sankara Vara Prasad and he preferred to use Chiranjeevi as his screen name.
# He married Surekha daughter of actor Allu Rama Lingaiah in 1980. The couple have a son, actor Ram Charan Teja and two daughters Sushmita & Sreeja. Film producer Nagendra Babu and actor Pawan Kalyan are his brothers.
# His son Ram Charan Teja married Upasana Kamineni on 14th June 2012. Upasana is vice-chairman of Apollo Charity and granddaughter Apollo Hospitals Managing Director Prathap C. Reddy.
# He attended C. S. R. Sharma College, Ongole. He has a bachelors degree in commerce.
# After his education he took acting seriously and joined “Madras Film Institute” in 1976.
# Chiru made his acting debut with “Punadhirallu” in 1978 alongside Ali and Gokineni Rama Rao. The film won “Nandi Award for Best Feature Film”. But his “Pranam Khareedu” opposite Rao Gopal Rao and Jayasudha was released first in 1978.
# He was honored with the “Padma Bhushan” in 2006. He was also honored with honorary doctorate by the Andhra University in 2006. He won Nandi Awards four times for his performance in Swayam Krushi, Rudraveena, Aapathbandavudu and Indra.
# He established “Chiranjeevi Charitable Foundation” in 1998. The foundation is actively involved in Blood donations and Eye Banks. After few years of establishment it earned the status of being the largest recipient of blood & eye donations. The foundation won “Best Voluntary Blood Bank Award” by the AP State Government for several years.
# He entered politics in 2008 by establishing his own party “Praja Rajyam”. In 2009 state elections he contested from Tirupati constituency and got elected with great margin. His party became the third largest party in the state. Chiranjeevi merged his “Praja Rajyam” with Indian National Congress on 6th Feb 2011,after long talks with Sonia Gandhi.
