Biography / trivia
* Dia Mirza was born on 9th Dec 1981 in Hyderabad to Frank Handrich, an architect and Deepa, an interior designer, her parents got separated when Dia Mirza was six years old. Her father Frank Handrich died in 1990. Her mother Deepa married Ahmed Mirza later and he died in 2004.
* Her birth name is Dia Handrich but prefers to use Dia Mirza as her stage name.
* Dia Mirza attended ‘Vidyaranya High School for Boys and Girls’ ‘Nasr School’ Khairatabad and ‘Stanley Junior College’ Hyderabad.
* She started her career as a Marketing executive for Dr. Neeraj’s Multi media studio and later worked for several TV commercials like Lipton, Emami etc. Her initial monthly salary was Rs.5000/-.
* She became runner up at Femina Miss India, 2000 and later she won the title of Miss Asia Pacific in 2000.
* She made her Bollywood film debut with ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ in 2001 opposite R. Madhavan.
* She is known for her community services like HIV awareness campaigns, PETA, Female foeticide, NDTV Greenathon, Cancer awareness etc.
* She is a person of multiple interests and her hobbies include reading, writing, painting, horse riding, pottery, theater etc.
* Diya Mirza and Aamir Khan supported Narmada Bachao Andolan, opposing the construction of the dam as it was likely to cause ecological imbalance and rehabilitation problem. BJP leaders led a protest march against both the actor and actress.
