# Her father Neil D’Souza, is working as a senior officer in TCS. Her mother Jeanette D’Souza was also workingfor a MNC in India but later left her job to help Genelia settle in film industry. Her brother, Nigel D’Souza, who works with the BSE.
# Actress says that her name “Genelia”, means “rare” or “unique”.
# Genelia entered the glamour world at the age of 15 itself, it was her first modeling assignment.
# Her debut movie Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003 was a boxoffice failure but critics was very much impressed by her performance. Her first commercial success came in Boys in the same year which was one of the biggest hits of the year giving her a big break in her film career.
# D’Souza was a part of stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai, an event which seeks to raise funds for rehabilitating homeless women with mental illness in Chennai.
# She was in controversy in 2010 when a Tamil daily reported that she had attended the controversial 2010 IIFA Awards in Colombo. The even was voluntarily boycotted by tamil film industry protesting the alleged killing of Tamilians in the war between Sri Lanka Army and LTTE.
# Again in 2011 she was in news as it was alleged that the wedding sequence scene of herself and John Abraham in Force movie was conducted by a real priest fulfilling all the rituals and hence they were really married in real life but however she dismissed the claims as a publicity stunt.
# Genelia is very religious person and attends Sunday Mass at St. Anne’s Parish in Bandra regularly.
