Govinda biography / trivia
* Govinda was born on 21st Dec 1963 to Arun Ahuja,an actor and Nazeem, an actress.
* His father Arun Ahuja was born in pre-partition Pakistan and later he came to Mumbai and made his debut with Ek Hi Raasta in 1937. His mother Nazeem was a born muslim and converted to Hinduism after her marriage with Arun Ahuja, she later changed her name to Nirmala Devi.
* Govinda was the youngest of six children and his nick name was “Chi Chi” which means little finger in Punjabi. Actor Kirti Kumar is his brother, his sister Kaamini Khanna is a writer.
* Arun Ahuja’s health deteriorated after he incurred huge loss in him film production hence Nirmala Devi worked hard to bring up the kids.
* Govinda attended ‘Annasaheb Vartak College’ in Vasai, Maharashtra, he has a bachelor’s degree in commerce.
* He developed interest towards dance after watching film Disco Dancer in 1982 and practiced for hours to improve his dancing skills.
* Govinda wanted to marry Neelam who appeared in several of his films but due to unknown reasons the couple broke up.
* Govinda fell in love with Sunita during filming of Tan Badan and the couple got married on 11th March 1987, they gave birth to two children Narmada & Yashvardhan.
* Govinda made his film debut with Ilzaam in 1986 alongside Shashi Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha, the film was a huge box office success.

* Govinda joined Congress party in 2004 and contested for MP election from Mumbai, he had an undisputed victory with more than 50000 votes in lead from his next competitor who was a 5 time sitting MP of the region.
* He was criticized for his passive political career, during the first 10 months of his tenure as MP he did not even spent a rupee from his MP Fund, he supported the dance bars while Congress Party was planning to propose ban on it, he never participated in any parliamentary debates. After much criticism and realization he decided to quit politics in 2008.
