*   Heath Ledger was born on 4th April 1979 in Perth, Australia to Sally Ledger, a French teacher, and Kim Ledger, a race-car driver. He died on 22nd Jan 2008 in New York.

*   His parents got divorce when he was 11 years old. Actress Kate is his elder sister and it was she who inspired him to act.

*   He attended Mary’s Mount Primary School and Guildford Grammar School.

*   He left the school before writing his graduation exams and pursued his acting career seriously when he was just 16.

*   He made his acting debut with Clowning Around in 1992 in a small role.

*   For his performance in The Dark Knight he won Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. His family accepted the award due to his tragic death.

*   Since from his childhood days he loved to play chess and he won “Western Australia’s junior chess championship” when he was just 10.

*   In an interview to New York Times in 2007 Ledger spoke about his inability to sleep and was under medication. In 2008 he also experienced some respiratory illness along with his insomnia despite of taking pills.

*   At about 2:45 p.m on 22 Jan 2008 Ledger was found unconscious in his apartment by his housekeeper, Teresa Solomon. Emergency medical technicians and a private security guard arrived at 3:33 pm but they were unable to reviving him and pronounced dead

*   After much speculation “Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of New York” released its autopsy report on 6th Feb 2008 and stated “We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications.”
