“My school was 90 percent white, but 90 percent of the kids I played with were black. So I got the best of both worlds. I think that is where my comedy developed. In black neighborhoods, everybody appreciated comedy about real life. In the white community, fantasy was funnier. I started looking for the jokes that were equally hilarious across the board, for totally different reasons.”
“I’ve never really viewed myself as particularly talented. I’ve viewed myself as slightly above average in talent. And where I excel is ridiculous, sickening, work ethic. You know, while the other guy’s sleeping? I’m working. While the other guy’s eatin’? I’m working, While the other guy’s making love, I mean, I’m making love, too. But I’m working really hard at it.”
“I think the great thing about Hollywood is there’s racism, but on a certain level, everyone’s green. It gets to the point that if you can put butts on seats then people will make films with you. I don’t look at myself like I’m making any wonderful social statements.”
